Lexi and Becky

Vintage styles are becoming modern again, so for this shoot we did a mix of both. Long flowing vintage curls and pinned up curls to create a bob with a headband for flare. We had a little problem with the camera, but we managed to get a few shots that worked. We found an antique store in Georgetown that let us do the photo shoot inside, it was great!
Lexi is a natural blonde. Her hair color below is completely natural! Amazing, right? Like most of us, Lexi wanted to try a new hair color, so I colored her hair a light brown. I'll have to ask her if blondes or brunettes have more fun.

Becky has beautiful long hair and it was really fun to work with. She hadn't colored her hair in a long time and didn't want something she needed to keep up with, so I created a color that would grow out soft and natural. I weaved a golden blonde around the front hairline and a chestnut brown throughout.

A little vintage goes a long way

I had so much fun going back in time and creating vintage hairstyles today on Lexi and Becky. Not only were the hairstyles from our grandmothers era, but the beautiful black lace dress is Lexi's grandmothers too. This picture is just before letting the hair down and making that oh so beautiful vintage wave. Yes girls, it takes forever to curl and pin the hair just so you can brush it out, but it's worth it. Just wait for the photo shoot pictures. I'll post before and after pictures soon. In the mean time, see if you can guess which one is a natural blonde?

The stylist behind the work

A little about me:

BIO
Shana Dee is the first stylist to be awarded the Flower Award by Dominque Counsel, President of Aveda, for her outstanding service and dedication. Inspired and humbled by this prestigious award, Shana Dee is dedicated to providing her clients exemplary service and detailed consultations. As an Aveda certified color educator, she customizes each hair color for skin tone and specializes in color placement. In addition, Shana Dee focuses on natural hair texture to deliver a cut and style that compliments face shape and is tailored to each individuals lifestyle.

I started my career 12 years ago in Utah where I assisted other stylist. I learned how to give a great blow dry that will last 3 days, the beginnings of all great updo's, and of course, how to shampoo the hair properly. At the time I didn't realize how important those three things would be, and I'm still using those techniques today. I then moved to Idaho and worked at my first Aveda salon, the turning point of my career. This is where I fell in love with Aveda and learned how important it is to not only create beautiful hair, but to take care of the world we live in too. (to learn more click here) The owners of the salon were always teaching and providing opportunities to attend classes. I became a salon coach and helped teach stylist new trends and coloring techniques. Also, I met the President of Aveda and was awarded the Flower Award. Arizona was calling my name, so I moved there and became an Aveda certified color educator, where I taught hair color classes to stylist from all over the Phoenix valley and in Las Vegas. I recently moved to Washington DC where I work at Aveda Georgetown. Right now I'm adding to my portfolio, and continuing to create gorgeous hair that you'll love inside and outside of the salon.

Caroline

Sweet Caroline is exactly what she is! I had so much fun styling Caroline's hair for this photo shoot. Shara Reimann did the make up and both of us took the pictures. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to photography, but I think we did great. See for yourself.
